Have any atheists completed a 12 steps addiction recovery program?
How does it work, with the higher power bit? Has anyone started out as an atheist an found God through it? Or successfully completed the program without a Higher Power? Or, if not God, what else have people used as their Higher Power?

Do you think religious addiction recovery programs just offer a substitute for people's addictive tendencies?
Whenever I hear people on the radio or TV talk about how Jesus solved their addition, it really sounds like they haven't lost that certain persona of addiction... Your thoughts?I'll be the first to admit that Jesus is better than heroine.SO12G Do you have beer nuts?

Has anyone seen Dr scott Anderson of addiction recovery care in tampa?

LDS addiction recovery program?
I am seeking the opinion of LDS people or people who respect our religion ONLY. please do not respond if you don't fall within those groups. I am wondering if anyone knows if the addiction recovery program that the church developed is helpful. They are starting a new group at my church and my bishop suggested I go for sexual addiction but I am absolutely terrified to go. Any advice?Thanksi've thought about a 3rd party councilor and my bishop said that the ward would help me pay for it if I choose to go that route because I really can't afford it since I am a full time nursing student. I have insurance that will cover most of it, just a copay that he said they would help with....i feel really bad about letting the church help me that way though...I got myself into this situation and i don't think its fair for the church to have to pay for me to get out, so i am avoiding it.oh, and I am not married.....have had a few close calls, but don't want to rush into eternity.

Question about addictions recovery group rules?
I am a newer leader in an addictions hurts habbits recovery group which is affiliated with my church. Today during our sharing another leader who has been in a conflict with one of the other group members, mentioned his desire not to come because of the other person's pressence. That other person was offended that the leader chose to mention his name in the conversation and felt that he should have shared on a generalized level rather than a personal and direct level. My question is 1 is there a standard for group share that explains if this is wrong or right 2 your personal thoughts.View 1 it is a private setting, anything should be said in confidence and members should feel they can participate openly and freely.View 2 even though it is a private setting, explaining your thoughts and feelings to include that other person's name is innapropriate and counterproductive to the team's efforts. Things should have been handled in private with the two and a mediatorThanks
