Question: Why is drug addiction considered an offense even when the society is not harmed?

Because drug dealers don't pay taxes- but it is ok to be addicted to prescription drugs because pharmaceutical companies pay taxes

It IS doing society harm. Everything you do has ramifications on everything and everyone around you. If you are on drugs, if you have a job, your job performance suffers, so your coworkers, boss, and customers suffer. If you don't have a job (which is usually the case) you are sponging off relatives or the government and are creating a burden on them. It causes emotional pain to people who love you. Don't kid yourself. If you have an addiction, you are being a burden to others and society in general.

Society is not harmed? Illegal drugs are criminal because ...forget it, you wouldn't understand.

Where did the drugs come from in the first place? They were probably illeggelly purchased from a drug dealer, who is breaking the law by selling and you breaking the law by buying them. Society is affected because you could be found dead somewhere or need assistance from someone else to fund your problem or you could be stealing to feed your habit, loitering the streets with infections...it goes on, there are many ways society is affected by it

Because it does affect everything! Everything that happens by whatever means has an effect! For every action there is a reaction.
