Jehovahs witnesses and drug addiction?

Question: Jehovahs witnesses and drug addiction?

(Posted by: Follow-the-narrow-gate on 2008-05-09 12:41:33)

So... I have started getting in contact with some sisters I used to know at the Kingdom Hall. It has been a while, a couple years, and I have yet to tell them I am in drug treatment. What will they think if I tell them I went voluntary to drug treatment? That I ODed? I am just wondering what there response will be, because obviously treatment takes a big chunck of time and would interfere if they ever asked me to go to the Kingdom Hall on weekdays. Any JWs out there... please answer :) Thanks

You should talk to the elders in your congregation before you tell anyone else.

I'd say that they'd think, thank Jehovah you are getting help. Whether you fell or not, is not really the most important thing to consider. What's important is that NOW you are getting help and getting back on your feet. Get your help, but of course, the BIGGEST help you can get is being close to Jehovah. Strengthening your relationship with Him.

Lots of JWs were formerly drug addicts. A brother I knew here was a drug dealer and was heading out his door with a coat load of marijuana when he was contacted at the door. He was an elder and pioneer now. A good friend of mine I met online is a recovering drug addict. I talk to her about medicines, Bible, etc. all the time. GO to the JWs. They will help you. Love and hugs, Debbie

I agree, you should talk to the elders and pray to Jehovah to help you. I am glad that you are getting the help that you need. remember we are all imperfect. and many have had problems before we became Jehovah Witnesses. remember Jehovah forgives in a huge way

If you go for drug treatment, they will recognise that you are a brave person who is trying to regain control of their lives and get over an addiction. That is remarkable. Go talk to the elders, they will give you all the support you need.

I cannot speak for the sisters, but my response would be, "What a brave person you are! I pray that you can overcome this problem and re-new your relationship with Jehovah. "

Treatment is a huge step, the fact that you voluntarily go is applaudable! Speak to the elders in your congregation so that they can support you through this. Pray earnestly for Jehovah's strength and courage to keep going. If it is your desire to be at weekly meetings, pray about that too and an opportunity will open itself up. Don't fear the sisters response I'm sure they love you and will respond the way all the brothers and sisters here have.
