Christians: how to correctly deal with drug addiction/anxiety/depression?

Question: Christians: how to correctly deal with drug addiction/anxiety/depression?

I'm unfortunately addicted to a degree and have problems with drugs. Nothing illegal, thank god, I'm not that stupid, but I've been taking prescription drugs for anxiety, etc, and all sorts of other supplements, etc, caffeine being the least of my problems. Drugs for depression, mostly over the counter, drugs for anxiety, mostly prescription, and other supplements/ vitamins , etc. The problem is, It's REALLY hard to distinguish what's anxiety, to what's depression, and to what's spiritual weakness and lack of faith. It's hard separating emotion from instinct and spirituality. Especially when you're trying to purify yourself, which is good spiritually AND physically. Don't want to destroy my health or my liver. However when going through the addiction/ withdrawal process, it screws up my mentallity/ emotions to such a degree, that I can't think clearly, and in that state I'm prone to making MANY mistakes. Lashing out at people, doing unchristian things. HELP! Symbolic things also happen, like I couldn't sleep this night, I woke up, and found my virgin mary framed picture which was supposed to hang from the wall, on the floor. Kind of scared me. I just feel like whenever I'm going through a tough time and perhaps destroy my faith for those few days, that God is going to hate me, or that the devil might feel it's the opportunity to atack or whatever. Also why do symbolic things happen like , why would my virgin mary picture detach from the wall and fall down, and I can't sleep and I wake up. It's all a bit 2 much.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matt 11:29 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. Romans 13:14

I strongly recommend that you speak with a well qualified psychiatrist and I don't say that to be insulting. You are taking too many drugs over-the-counter or however, STOP! And anxiety is more of a nervous state and depression is a sad, lazy state. And last but not least spiritually and instinct are both emotions. Instinct is more akin to GOT-TO-EAT and after a good meal, you feel relaxed and calm that is also a spiritually.

I know what you are going through, what you need to do is see a psychologist to help you regulate all of the prescriptions you are taking..you cant just stop, you need to taper off. And as far as everything else, talk to god..pray all the time. The only reason i am alive today is because god saved me when i was at the lowest of lows. I have a strong relationship with god and i talk to him and pray throughout the day. Whenever you feel that urge to do something bad..just stop and say a prayer and tell god you need him right now..and for him to please help you! This has worked for me 99 percent of the time. Addiction is a constant battle and the thing is..with addiction you are looking for happiness from things of this world. And I learned the hard way that the things of this world will not always be there for you..that's where god comes in. He will be there for you ANYTIME ANYWHERE! Do not give up, god gives us all unique challenges..and if i would have not gone through what i did i would have never had found god! See..some things do happen for a reason.

Addiction is addiction. It is not a matter of degree. Anything, even food- will effect the body. The best and only way to straighten out is to stop taking anything. Yes, you are going to go through some emotional problems. It comes with the withdrawal. I have been where you are. I found the hard way that even prescription meds can be not good. Especially the so called psychiatric ones. Once you are clean for a few months, only THEN can you begin (with a clear mind) to see what is what. You'll need to learn to live one minute at a time but that only lasts for a short while. Work as if it all depends on you, but pray because it really depends on God...there are some things we definitely cannot do alone.

If you are a christian and attend church maybe ask some of the members of the church that you trust to pray for you.. anxiety is when you get anxious about what is going to happen and depression is your reaction to something negative that has already happened.. insticts is what drives you to do what you do and emotions is how you feel about what you or others have done.. we are all guilty of sin and we will always be even down to the smallest things like telling innocent lies to protect someones feelings. so you can only purify yourself to a certain extent of the word..of course going through withdrawals screws you up because you are going against what your body and mind have taken in as the norm.. but you have to have faith in yourself that when you get these feelings you can stand strong over them at those exact times you need to say to yourself that you can overpower them that underneath the lord you are the other ruler of your body and if you put those two people together than you can overcome anything.. at those tough times in your life the devil has already attacked, it is up to you how you are going to defend yourself against him.. when you give up and lower your faith you are giving him a foothold over your problems and he just puts more obstacles in your path.. the Lord already knows this and he does not fault you for the few days of lost faith that you have.. sometimes it takes losing your faith to get it back again..( like when you are like "enough " and you are ready to deal with the problem) ever heard that the Lord does not put on you more than what you can handle? sometimes it seems to be untrue but the thing about that is its not what you can handle but how you handle it and that is what he wants to see... HOPE THIS MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER.

First of all, it's wrong that you have a picture of the Virgin Mary. you should not be worshipping pictures of ANY religious people out of the Bible, or anyone at all besides God. that's not christian, that's catholicism. what you need is a cross and the Holy Bible. And to help with your faith, I would suggest reading the Bible, repenting, and seeking out your brothers and sisters in Christ. A strong faith includes being around people of that manner. I don't know what else to say except good luck because Christianity cured my depression, and I'm sure it'll do the same for you.

I just noticed that you are seeking christian advice to a problem that is caused by people who think that a pill cures everything. God will get you addicted alright, but you won't need detox. _____ On my floor at work there is a detox program it is called New Vision. Anxiety is big problem with them, they become restless, agitated, and nervous. There is no easy way to do it. You had the easy way (pop a pill), now you must go through the hard way. It won't be easy. Try to enter into a detox program first (your insurance might pay for it). They usually last for 3 to 5 days. This is one of the toughest part, but stick with it. Read your bible for strength and even ask for a minister to come and talk to you. If you don't or no one can talk to you remember that you are doing this for you. You are doing it for you. Read the bible because you want assurance for the heart and from the heart, not assurance takes from a guide book. Detox is only the beginning, now you must enter into a program. Good luck and many blessings to you.
