Question: Why drug addiction is the major problem in western countries?

Can u give some reason why it is not the major probelm in china, india.russia etc. (it is also a crisis in these countries also but i m talking abt the severity of this thing)

Our culture does not take as dim a view of drug use as other cultures do, the penalties are not an effective deterrent. I remember my high school social studies class did a bit of research on this (million years ago when skateboards just got urethane wheels). Many mideast countries put users and dealers in prison for 30 years, and the prisons are not anywhere near as nice as ours (no ACLU). as for Russia, go watch the movie "Red Heat " with Jim Belushi & Arnold Schwarzenegger---it gives a great characterization of why Russia may not have as bad a problem as the U.S. There is a scene where arnie (playing a russian cop) says "we don't have drug problem in russia, we shoot dealers " Jim Belushi says "the attorneys would never go for that here "...Arnie Says "shoot them first! "

Drug addiction is a problem everywhere, most western countries are capitalist, and promote ideas of getting what you want,buying stuff ETC, as a road to happiness, drug addiction can be seen as both a reaction to this, and a form of it. the family structure is also different, with more single parent families, less extended family support ETC, so maybe all these things play there part.

With infrastructure development comes the fast moving flow of people between areas. Hence city based problems spread.

More $$$ = greater availability. As China and India gain more wealth, things will change there, too.
