Question: Why does society accept pill addiction more than illegal drug addiction?
(Posted by: CDs are so 2003 (iPod Guy) on 2009-08-04 05:47:12)
If a person does illegal drugs they call them bums and no- good junkies, but if they pop a bunch of pills they get more sympathy and are not judged as much as people who do heroine, coke, etc. Why the double standard? Isn't taking pills all the time more destructive then a person who smokes weed everyday or that occasionally does crack? |

Pills you get from the doctor aren´t as pathetic as sucking on a crack pipe and turning tricks in the parking lot at Arby´s. Sometimes, people do need to shot down. It´s better to take sleeping pills for a few days than heroine. As for addiction, they should take everything that´s highly addictive and damaging to health off the free market, like: Twinkies, pizza, beer, expresso, grilled cheese sandwiches, kool aid, chocolate...... |

It is true, there are double standards. But I think why it is accepted more so than illegal drug taking is because it is hidden and more acceptable to go to a doctor, who is of reputable standing within society to get their rush than going around a corner to buy drugs. Also, many people who use prescription drugs as their choice of habit will have taken these medications for pain and begin to rely on them unlike taking illegal drugs whereby it is their choice to begin taking them in the first place. |

Oh this is good. First off smoking weed everyday DOES NOT fall into the same category as heroine, coke, and pills. Secondly the reason I believe there is a double standard is because of where you get the drugs from mostly. Usually a nice rich doctor will prescribe you all the opiates you need where as heroine comes from a street dealer. Street dealer bad, doctor good. Really there is no difference in these two. Sure some doctors don't do it but most do and sure some people need them but most don't need them forever. And I do believe that the pills are much more destructive because they are legal and easy to get. Not to mention these drugs are synthetically made to f-u- up. There isn't a good cut, or good bud, they are deadly from the get go and work perfectly with our bodies. That's why abuse is so dangerous... Society is stupid, a drug addict, is a drug addict, because if the pill head is cut off from the doctor then he buys off the streets just like coke and heroine. But weed doesn't count!!! |

Society is effected, and mainly controlled or influenced highly, by media hype and focus. Since the media is telling us that most of the problems with people, involve the troubles they get into while the law is being enforced, most negatively seen things are because of legality issues created by the government. So, in a sense, the problem or double standard suggested by you, is more, in reality, a question of whether the government has seen them as a societal problem or not, or a money maker or not. Really, the government doesn't give a flying F*** about you or anyone elses addictions, just whether or not they can make steady money off of something, to keep their jobs and cash their checks. So, when they say, drug addiction is bad, they are referring to the drugs that they can't control and make money off of, as well as them having the possibility of killing people off quickly. There's no money to be made, if no one is alive to use the drugs or buy other government taxed products... All forms of addiction can be destructive. The government tries to control which ones we use and don't use, by accusing us of being addicts of nearly anything that it can't tax. Yes, unfortunately, despite the fact that you can't actually become addicted to marijuana, the government insists that you can. You can get deeper into these ideas, learning things like who owns nearly all of the media corporations... Government funded institutions (Who'd of thought?!?!). I prefer to stay away from nearly everything you put into your body. Only stuff that's natural and not wicked to you, is stuff that I've done. Weed and Shrooms are it. Shrooms are hilarious and crazy. Weed, I don't really care for anymore. Used to be fun, now it's kind of old an annoying. Everything else keeps me from being in my tip top body condition, and can bring you to an early grave. Alcohol and cigarettes should be waaaay more controlled then weed, in my opinion; and thousands of others. But you don't see them jumping on the supporting band wagon for helping people become sober or nicotene free. Anywho, I think I've made my point... |
