My heart tells me it's not idolatry. My mind is not in entire agreement.

An idol is an image, a representation of anything, or a symbol that is an object of passionate devotion, whether material or imagined. Generally speaking, idolatry is the veneration, love, worship, or adoration of an idol. It is usually practiced toward a real or supposed higher power, whether such power is believed to have animate existence (as a human, an animal, or an organization) or is inanimate (as a force or lifeless object of nature). Idolatry generally involves some form, ceremony, or ritual. Drug addiction is just that - an addiction

No. You are not consciously worshiping the drugs. it is just a physical addiction-nothing more.

If you worship marijuana you will go to hell.

A drug is a spirit you hang out with. not a good thing, but hey, welcome to the world right?

Yes it is, IF you worship the drug more than anything else, including God.

Anything in your life that you hold higher than God is idolatry. So it could be drugs, porn, your husband, your kids, your wife, etc...

Drug is not forbidden in the Bible. The British sold it to the Chinese. Now the American and British controlled Afghanistan is the chief producer of opium.

Addiction in general is idolatry. Anything that you 'need' on a regular basis besides what is necessary to live is putting something before God.

Its not idolotary its partly gluttony since you take something into your body that will do it no good. It's like overeating which is also no good for your body. You could also add its partly despair since you have no hope of happiness unless you put this drug into your body.

A god by definition is something supernatural. Since drugs do not violate anything we know about physics, they don't seem to qualify as a god. If you try to determine whether drugs are okay only by whether it would make your god jealous, you are in for trouble most likely.

In a way it is idolatry because you become dependent on the drugs instead of your Savior. having a drug addiction is having an evil spirit. you are no longer who you were. you aren't dealing with a person anymore, but an evil spirit. it messes up your way of thinking and your judgement. anything you look to...sex, drugs, alcohol, even just little simple things...to try and find what God already has for you is idolatry. He is all you need. you don't need the drugs

It's not idolatry. It's an "addiction. " Be it physical or mental.
