Question: People in the porn industry are drug addicts?

I heard that people in the porn industry usually are desperate drug addicts. Do you think this is true? (Wow, I have no idea where to post this question. I think Men's Health but all the people in there are prepubescant kids asking questions that frighten me about the state of the world. .. So hopefully the LBGT will know the answer.)

Sorry, but nope. Are there some drug addicts in the porn industry? Certainly, without a doubt. But then again, there are drug addicts in all sorts of industries. People tend to assume that pornstars are drug addicts (or otherwise have some sort of problem) because they can't imagine anybody being able to do porn otherwise. It's quite a logical fallacy- just because I can't imagine being happy and healthy doing X, everybody doing X must be damaged! The fact of the matter is that drug addicts make pretty poor porn stars. Not only do drugs tend to change your physical appearance for the worse (poor, wan skin, sores, track marks, etc.): youtube.com/ watch?v= mEFPdNv2Ddk They also have other problems. Studios are paying good money for their stars, and stars who are sober are the ones most likely to be on time, to not flake on their commitments, to arrive ready to give a good scene, and are less likely to potentially have STD issues from needle sharing. The prized pornstars are the ones who are dedicated to putting out good product and making money and a name for themselves, not those enamored with the party lifestyle or only in it to for enough money to score their next fix. Directors learn quickly to avoid performers who have drug problems, and where you do tend to see addicts appear is in the very low-quality or underground porn where producers can pay less and don't care so much about the quality of the women or men, so long as they have them. I don't believe this is necessarily true. Sure, some probably are, but most aren't. I think people in the porn industry get drug tested because of all the diseases that can be passed around.

There are I imagine a few drug addicts there. However not all are. Some get into the work because they like sex and attention (really don't we all). I doubt it is true. Alot of people do it only a couple times, or for a little while, and quit, probably for money. and others can be incredibly successful, which I doubt they could keep themselves together to become, if they were drug users. While i have no doubt that there may in fact be a much higher portion of drug users in that feild than others.. I doubt its totally infested.

No, of course not. Generalities are always wrong (sarcastic wit intended). As in any industry involving "free thinkers " who are willing to trade their body for something they need (usually money), there are people who do drugs and people who don't. Some are very health-conscious and refuse to work without STD protection, etc. Some don't start doing drugs until they get the money, some go into it specifically to make money to support their drug addiction, some never touch drugs. Some are carnivores, some are vegetarians. Some are gay, some are straight, some aren't quite sure. There are many different reasons for getting into the porn industry. Some go into it for kicks thinking it would be fun to have all the sex in the world and make money at the same time, some get in just to make a quick buck as a stop-gap measure until they can get a decent job, some make one porn film and decide it's not for them, some go into it with a life-long commitment in mind (or as long as they have what it takes to produce a marketable product), and some go into it as an act of rebellion against their parents. Whatever their reasons for doing it, it doesn't always include drugs.

Drug addicts don't look so hot so I wouldn't want to see one getting it on. Probably the most successful ones are not drug addicts or else they'd look like a mess.

Only a small percentage of them that do major porn projects. Years ago a good friend of mine was a drug attic until he completed a program. He was a paralegal that started a nine hundred number business and then six months later he started to make porn and one year later he was a millionaire. Today he is a top porn filmmaker and he's still clean. You have to be clean and very well focused to stay on top in that business because it's not all fun and games. Most major porn filmmakers screen their actors well and don't like attics for a variety of reasons when making good porn with a storyline. If you go to a site like youporn you will find many armatures and others that are trying to get a break. The small time people that want to be porn stars like on youporn seem to be the ones that have the drug problems but they won't cut it in the big time. Major porn movies is big money and the filmmakers don't have time to deal with employees that will just screw of their money on drugs but some of them slip through the cracks and get by with it.
