Just me, i converted after i was in jail. Maybe most of us are Christians beacuse many Christians are the ones that want to help people in jail. I studied religion instead of joining a gang. gang members always go back. I experienced an internal conversion and changed my life.

I don't believe "religion " can. I do believe Jesus Christ can.

Because religion exploits primal human fears of mortality

The power of the human mind should never be underestimated. Also, belonging to a community of people who are supporting you and encouraging you can mean a lot. But how come (in the US) most criminals, alcoholics, and drug addicts are Christians?

It empowers them to live in fear by creating an environment of irrational, random terror.

Religion really CAN'T change anyone's life, so, NO, religion CAN'T change the lives of criminal, alcoholics and drug addicts...it's just a SCAM to get out of their present set of circumstances, one that is temporary. religion is Spiritual fraud and totally Spiritually worthless. religion is the worse invention of Humanity. religion is not a cure, but a cancer, a sin, a very bad destructive mind-set to have. Here's what can change a person's religious beliefs: Create Your Relationship with Our Creator and eliminate religion from Your Life. That's Life changing ! Peace be with You

I agree with Just Me. A support network is invaluable for people with major issues in their lives, be it an addiction problem or other mental health concerns. I would like to add that since humans are very social animals there is some pressure to conform to our surroundings. If I were to suddenly lose my mind, break every Oath I've ever sworn to my deities (which I would NEVER do - oath breakers are as bad as murderers to us) and convert to another faith that frowned on my mode of dress and general appearance, I would obviously change those aspects of myself to try to fit in with those in that faith. I would want to be accepted by the "pack " or "herd ". This pressure to conform to the standards of the group we currently identify ourselves with can be a powerful motivator, whether we do it to ourselves as a way to further our own position in the group and/ or acceptance by the group, or are facing expulsion from that group because of our lack of conformity. After all, who doesn't want to "belong " to a certain extent?

I call it the "Dumbo " effect. If you've seen the Disney animated movie "Dumbo, " you'll know that Dumbo was a baby elephant who could fly because he had large ears. However, he thought it was because he carried a "magic " feather in his trunk. Religion is like Dumbo's feather. It convinces people that when they "fly " (accomplish anything) it's because of the "feather " (a god), rather than that they've done it themselves. Nothing real requires faith. .

I dont know about other religion but for Islam I could really say that it would change the lives of every person if followed correctly as been thought in Quran and by Prophet Muhammed... Islam comes from Arabic word Salam and Salim...meaning peace and submission to the will of God and obedience to His law.To a Muslim, Allah is the Almighty, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Who is similar to nothing and nothing is comparable to Him. Allah is the personal name of the One true God. Nothing else can be called Allah. The term has no plural or gender. This shows its uniqueness when compared with the word god which can be made plural, gods, or feminine, goddess. It is interesting to notice that Allah is the personal name of God in Aramaic, the language of Jesus and a sister language of Arabic. Islam is not a new religion. It is, in essence, the same message and guidance which Allah revealed to all Prophets. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ismael, David, Moses and Jesus (PBUT). But the message which was revealed to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is Islam in its comprehensive, complete and final form. The Quran is the last revealed word of Allah and the basic source of Islamic teachings and laws. The Holy Quran , though has been checked by critics over the span of history, remained unequally unshakable. Most of those who came bearing in mind to find faults with it, embraced Islam and even began to call for Islam. The historical facts in the Holy Quran, when checked with the newly discovered facts, proved to be in consistence with science. Scientists in all the different scientific walks, have found that Quran, though revealed over than 1400 years ago, is compatible with their sciences. Possibly because it helps them to focus on something higher than just themselves.

Because it's a system that provided structure, rules, and a feeling that someone cares. There are various self-help groups such as Est that help those who are out of control, too. You may notice that many different religions can make that claim. That itself shows that it's something inherent in religion that's working, not any particular god.

God draws people to Him. The more trouble we're in, the easier it seems to hear His voice. I guess for most of us it takes a whole lot of trouble before we realize that we're sooo not in control ourselves. At which point it becomes quite easy to not only ask for help but to graciously accept it.

Transfer the addiction/ dependency from chemicals to "god ". Viola! They are "cured ", or so people are told. But you should go ask Mike Huckabee how religion changes the lives of criminals.
