Question: In a christian country shouldn't drug addicts be forgiven instead of punished?
(Posted by: DrChaos on 2010-03-11 12:12:41)
The US is incarcerating more people than China or the former USSR and all because we allow Prohibition and the War on Drugs rule instead of human forgiveness and caring. But since restrained fascist legislation does not solve the Drug problem (it has been getting worse and worse for decades) why don't you start executing drug dealers like in China and drug users too cause this will never stop. |

Taking a moral stance on things usually involves condemning someone else. Practically every experience ever made on the subject shows time and time again that harsh drug laws only invite violent organized criminals to participate in the drug trade, and that harder drugs become more freely available when governments crack down on them. Yet, the moralists persist. They don't care how absurd their stance is in the real world and what its real effect are. that's the price they're willing to make society pay to flatter their sense of moral outrage. |

As a christian I find it strange that a justice system would arrest and imprison someone for using drugs, the real offenders are the drug dealers, lock them up instead of the user. |

Forgiveness comes by asking Jesus to forgive your sins. The Bible says we reap what we sow. Sorry you can't away with selling drugs. Get caught and you go to jail. |

Forgiving is not the opposite of punishing. We often are both forgiven and punished. |

Drugs are bad, and druggies should be rounded up and shot - unless you are hooked on prescription pain killers of course. Then you are Rush Limbaugh. |

NOTE: America isn't a Christian nation. It's only that majority of the population is Christian. Lately, there have been a lot more religions being practiced. And there is also a rising number of Atheists in America. |

I think it's working just fine. When they are caught they do their time. Some straighten up, some don't. We all choose our own paths. If they keep doing it, they will keep being incarcerated. I feel like the system is just fine. |

Because we don't just kill people for the fuck of it. Why not give the drug dealers a second chance. Oh and the murderers, rapists and child molesters. C'mon jerk. Have you ever been addicted to drugs? You will do ANYTHING to get your next fix. I don't know what to even think about you. You say forgiveness and caring and then the next sentace you say we should start executing people. Maybe we should execute you. |

Many drug addicts are not content with messing up their own lives; they want to get other people to use the drugs and mess up their lives too. I think a lot of lawyers and judges do not want to get rid of drug dealers because they are making money off of them. Sometimes they will catch a little drug dealer but they don't usually go after the big dealers. |

If people were always forgiven they would always do bad things because they knew they would be just fine. You can be forgiven and punished at the same time. You get punished for your own good. |

Would not treatment be best? Forgiveness without tackling the problem can be a cop out. |

God says in his word that even though people are forgiven of their sins if they sincerely repent, they still suffer the consequences of their actions. |

Um incarceration is an opportunity to repent isn't it. if you repent before you get in trouble with the law then you won't have to worry about it. it doesn't sound like you want forgiveness or caring though. it sounds like you want to do drugs or otherwise profit from that soul-murdering business. are you a dope PUSHER, who profits from the enslavement of others to dope of some kind? google "pharmakeia " and you will see we go easy on dope pushers here. |

There is mercy in being called out on what your doing wrong. In fact, it's rude to let a person or population go without consequences to avoid bad behaviors. |
